    Macgyver - The Complete Series

MacGyver is an American action/adventure television series created by Lee David Zlotoff and executively produced by Henry Winkler and John Rich that aired on. Seven seasons were produced, all of which were broadcast by American Broadcasting Company Network (ABC) in the United States and various other networks abroad from 1985-92. The series was filmed in Los Angeles during Seasons 1, 2 and 7, and in Vancouver, Canada from Seasons 3-6. The show's final episode aired on April 25, 1992 on ABC -- the same night the one-hour series finales of Growing Pains and Who's the Boss? also aired.

The story arc of MacGyver follows the laid-back, extremely resourceful secret agent Angus MacGyver, played by Richard Dean Anderson. He prefers non-violent conflict resolution wherever possible and refuses to carry or use a gun. MacGyver works as a problem solver for the fictional Phoenix Foundation in Los Angeles. Educated as a scientist and with a background from a fictional United States government agency, the Department of External Services (DXS), he is used as a resourceful agent able to solve a range of problems along with ever-present swiss army knife.

The series was a ratings success for the American Broadcasting Company (ABC), and was particularly popular in the United States, Europe and Australia. The series received much critical response, and MacGyver was honored with numerous awards and award nominations in its seven-season run. Two television movies, entitled MacGyver: Lost Treasure of Atlantis and MacGyver: Trail to Doomsday, aired on ABC in 1994. While never released, a spin off entitled Young MacGyver was planned in 2003. A live-action feature film is planned to be released, with the release date yet to be announced. Merchandise for the MacGyver franchise includes games and toys, print media and an original audio series.

I've had my fair share of cringeworthy experiences with catching an episode of an old favorite show on cable - within ten minutes I'm wondering why I ever enjoyed it when I was a kid. "MacGyver" isn't one of them. Just about any episode from any season is enough to remind me why I loved going along for the ride back then, and I still do. Of course, I knew even as a teenager that he was a bit goody goody - ordering milk at a bar, never eating junk food, trying to reason gently with an ex-girlfriend who just tried to murder him, and yet he doesn't always wear his seatbelt - but it's all part of the fun. So are the occasional plot holes, which of course are a bit more noticeable this time around. I also seem to recall thinking as a kid that the show became less about gadgets and more about teaching life lessons in later seasons, but I now see that even the earliest episodes often had morality issues and the later seasons still had quite a bit of gadgetry to their credit. It's really a

This has been one of the best purchases we have made for our family. Our children enjoy watching Macgyver turn ordinary objects into the extraordinary to help him get out of a scrape. I have enjoyed reliving my childhood in which my husband and I watched these same shows.

It is so great watching all the seasons in a row. It was worth every penny & cheaper buying the whole set. I am nearing the seventh season and dreading for it to end. Wonderful!!!
